SMEG, Société Monégasque de l’Électricité et du Gaz, has set up an easy to understand warning system for potential power cuts in the Principality.
Users can click on a link (below) to see a four-day forecast. Unsurprisingly, green indicates a normal situation, yellow shows that the system is stretched and power savings are needed, while red means that the electrical power situation is very stretched, and unless users lower their usage blackouts will be inevitable. The information is updated every 15 minutes, SMEG says.
Peak hours are between 08:00 and 13:00 and from 18:00 until 20:00. Users can help in the evening period by cooking and using washing machines later in the day.
Cuts are unlikely over the holiday period as most businesses take a break. The most perilous period is likely to be at the end of January, or beginning of February. Monaco is almost 100 percent dependent on power supplies from France.
NEWS.MC will provide regular updates and warn of any upcoming blackouts.
