Three years ago, five tidepool structures were installed at water level in front of the Fontvieille breakwater.
These modules were manufactured by the ECOncrete Company, which specialises in “bio-improving” concrete structures. The surface treatment is rough and grooved to allow for better attachment of species in order to increase ecological value and colonisation.
The first results are very encouraging to the point that it is easy to observe, with the naked eye, the species that have made them their home.
The Department of the Environment has installed an awareness panel on the Jean Charles Rey low wall in order to locate them and explain these artificial reefs.
