The Urban Planning Department (DAU) has equipped a storm spillway in the Port of Fontvieille with a macro and micro-waste retention net.

This is to trap all the solid pollutants coming from the storm spillway of the urban sewerage network that carries rainwater during heavy downfalls. The net, a multi-wall trap, is equipped with a mesh capable of filtering the smallest waste.

“It is mainly for plastic, aluminium, cigarette butts and polystyrene fragments,” said Laurent Tallarida, Territorial Technician in charge of the Sanitation Section of the DAU. “In the end, the result of this will not be very impressive in terms of weight since it is primarily small waste. But these are all elements that will not end up in the natural environment.”

It is planned to gradually equip other sites in the Principality.
