After many months of legal uncertainties following the designer’s death almost three years ago, Sotheby’s is to start selling items from Karl Largerfeld’s extensive estate in December this year.
The first sales will be in Monaco and Paris between December 3 and 15 and will continue into 2022 with further sales in Paris and Monaco and also Cologne.
“The auction will pay tribute to this unique and exceptionally creative designer, a major figure in the worlds of fashion and art,” Pierre Mothes, vice president of Sotheby’s France, said in March.
Lagerfeld collected a huge number of items of art and furniture over his lifetime. He slimmed down his treasure trove with a sale of 18th century French art and furniture in 2000, which fetched $28.5 million at Christie’s.
