AS Monaco continue to avoid winning a match, as they lost by 0-1 to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk at the Stade Louis II on Tuesday, August 17. This was the first leg of Monaco’s UEFA Champions League play-offs.

The visiting Ukrainians claimed an early lead through the efforts of Pedrinho to score a goal at the 19th minute.

The Monegasques responded with a quick succession of shots on goal, but these were all dealt with by a highly attentive Anatoliy Trubin inbetween the visitor’s posts.

Trubin continued to be troublesome for Monaco well into the second half, saving every shot that came his way, and ultimately keeping the Monegasques at bay as the last line of the Donetsk side’s defence.

At the end of a long match for Monaco, the visitors emerged victorious by just one goal. This is not the end of the world for the red and whites by any means, as the Principality side will travel to Ukraine to play the second and final leg against Donetsk on Wednesday, August 25.

Before then though, Monaco will face Lens at the Stade Louis II on Saturday, August 21. Here’s to hoping that Niko Kovac and co’ will be able to find their first victory of the Ligue 1 season on this occasion.
