A meeting between Government ministers and Monaco anti-pass campaigners lasted more than two hours on Monday, but as expected there was no resolution of deep differences.

The Government is determined that the Health Pass will come into force on August 23, limiting access to venues, bars, cafes and restaurants to those who have had two jabs and the paperwork to prove it.

Monaco’s stance is in line with the French. The view is that only mass vaccination will enable life to get back to any sort of normal.

In Monaco, a Facebook page – Manifestation pacifique contre le pass sanitaire à Monaco – had attracted more than 3,000 members by Monday night. Te strength of this opposition appeared to surprise the Government, which responded by saying that it is important that there are not division among the populace.

The leader of the online protest, Sharon Rochetin, said that the Health Pass measure promotes discrimination and will have disastrous psychological consequences.

Sharon was not alone across the table on Monday. A restaurant operator, a mother, a retired nurse, a lawyer and a Monaco police officer made up the delegation.

Meanwhile, a report in French daily Le Figaro shows that where the Health Pass has been trialled there has been a significant loss of business for restaurants.
