Recently published statistics have shown that 2,541 people died on the roads of metropolitan France in 2020. While this figure may seem very large, it is in fact the lowest recorded toll in France in the entire post-war period.

Since 1945, France’s annual road death toll never dipped below the 3,000 mark, but the coronavirus pandemic came along and took many cars and people off the roads.

The figure for 2019 stood at 3,244, so 2020 saw a welcome 22 percent decrease in road deaths.
