HSH Prince Albert, who has served as Honorary President of UIPM (the International Union of Modern Pentathlon) since 1996, hosted a meeting with President Dr Klaus Schormann and Secretary General Shiny Fang on April 12, 2021 at the Prince’s Palace of Monaco.
HSH Prince Albert, who is also a Member of the International Olympic Committee, was briefed on recent UIPM activities including innovation projects, preparations for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (taking place in 2021) and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Executive Board events and forthcoming elections.
They discussed matters of international sporting politics within the Olympic movement, gender equality and environmental issues, financial and social consequences of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, and the close partnership between UIPM and the Principality of Monaco, which has been the home of UIPM Headquarters since 1997. The potential possibility of hosting future UIPM Congresses in Monaco was discussed.
HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco complimented the progress made by UIPM and pledged to continue supporting the activities of the global Modern Pentathlon community, having recently assisted and supported the Union in finding a spacious new office base for UIPM Headquarters within the Principality.
