Mr Laurent Anselmi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, participated in a meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism on Monday, February 24 at the Palais des Nations, headquarters of the United Nations Office in Geneva.

The Principality is associated with this Franco-German initiative launched in April 2019. It consists of an appeal to the community of nations to strengthen international law and humanitarian action on the basis of shared principles with a broad field of application – humanitarian consequences of armed conflict, climate change and disasters, violations of gender equality and the right to dignity, cybercrime, and so on.

Mr Anselmi met Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic. Beforehand, accompanied by HE Mrs. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations Office at Geneva, and Gilles Realini, Deputy Permanent Representative, the Minister took part in the opening of the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

This meeting began with the holding of a high-level session during which Heads of State, Ministers and senior UN personalities reviewed the state of human rights in the world. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Antonio Guterres, launched a seven-point call to action in order to strengthen the involvement of the Organisation and its member States in the promotion and protection of human rights.

Monaco is co-sponsoring a side event devoted to a report on human rights and the environment, to be held on Friday 28 February.
