There were more marriages in the Principality in 2019 than births and deaths, according to figures from the Monaco Town Hall.

Almost 90 percent of deaths took place in hospital or in clinics, with the 524 deaths almost evenly split between people living in Monaco and residents of neighbouring towns.

All 939 births took place at the Princess Grace Hospital. Four hundred and sixty-seven of the births were out of wedlock, and 472 births to married couples. The most popular name for boys was Léo, while parents favoured Charlotte for daughters.

The number of divorces fell from 78 in 2018 to 70 last year.
