An investigation has been opened by Monaco’s Judicial Services into “involuntary injuries” following the incident during the No Finish Line event on Saturday in which a participant was seriously injured.

The victim herself – a 40 year-old Monaco Resident – has not lodged a complaint herself, but will be interviewed by the Public Security services.

The Prosecutor General’s Office will examine whether there is a link between the decision to keep the event open and the incident in which several participants were knocked over by a series of large waves. The injured woman was thrown several metres onto a car parked on the land side of the Fontvieille breakwater.

The investigation will also look into the origin of the video showing part of the drama which was available on the Internet shortly afterwards, but which has since been taken down.

An orange weather alert was in force at the time of the incident and the Government has since said that it will consider a relocation of the popular annual charity event.
