Privileged guests of CFM Indosuez were invited on Thursday to Imprévus, an evening behind the scenes at the workshops of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, located in neighbouring Beausoleil.
In his welcoming remarks, Mathieu Ferragut, CEO of the Monaco bank, said the evening came after a three-year break brought about by the coronavirus pandemic and its restrictions. CFM Indosuez has been an enthusiastic and faithful sponsor of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo for a total of 23 years.
Speaking both English and French, choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot took dancers through a number of scenes from current and future productions, to the delight of those present who were able to witness at first hand his alchemy and rapport with dancers.
“Dancers must have thoughts,” he said, “that they then translate into movements… It should be a person who dances, not a dancer.”
The evening continued with cocktails and guests were able to meet and talk individually with dancers, who, together with their inspirational choreographer, make the Ballets de Monte-Carlo one of the top ballet companies in the world.
The Ballets de Monte-Carlo have a very full programme over the next few months, performing here in Monaco – West Side Story will be staged at the Grimaldi Forum on December 18 – and abroad. Among the venues are the US and Japan.
