After a brief upsurge in bookings after the end of lockdown, the number of diners in Monaco’s restaurants has declined, according to Alberte Escande, the president of the local hotel operators association, AIHM.

Any sustained improvement is not likely before September, she said. The worst-hit are restaurants in Monaco Ville, which depend heavily on tourist traffic. The Condamine has also suffered, although restaurants on Port Hercule have fared better.

Speaking to La Gazette de Monaco, Ms Escande said that teleworking has had a major effect on lunchtime trade, as so many more people have continued to work from home.
