Monaco’s Second Deputy Mayor, Marjorie Crovetto, who also serves as Vice-President of the Monegasque delegation to the Congress, presented a report examining the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in smaller countries, including Monaco.
Monaco’s Minister of the Interior, Lionel Beffre, also attended bilateral meetings before addressing delegates on the Principality’s presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers. His speech revisited Monaco’s priorities, including women’s and children’s rights plus the role of sport and international cooperation.
Beffre highlighted the Principality’s continued support for Ukraine through a recent ministerial visit to Kyiv. Looking ahead, Beffre identified artificial intelligence and environmental protection as significant challenges requiring coordinated action.
He stressed that local and regional authorities have a crucial role in responding to these issues, as decisions affecting everyday life should remain closely connected to the citizens they serve.
For Monaco, the Congress provided an opportunity not only to reaffirm its commitment to European cooperation, but also to demonstrate how smaller states can contribute meaningfully to tackling shared challenges. From protecting democratic values to addressing emerging global concerns, the discussions reinforced the importance of ensuring that decisions remain rooted in the needs of local communities.
