Work has begun on a new 2,500-square-metre platform at Monaco’s Darse Sud, opposite La Rascasse, with the project intended to provide additional space for the Formula 1 Grand Prix and other major events in the Principality.

The Princely Government expects the new infrastructure to be ready for the 2027 Grand Prix, with construction scheduled to run from November 2026 to April 2027.

The extension is designed to meet Formula 1’s growing infrastructure requirements and help secure the long-term future of the race in Monaco. It will complement additional paddock space made available on Quai Antoine Ier in spring 2026, following the demolition of the former International School of Monaco building.

Beyond increasing the available event space, the project will introduce new electrical infrastructure. A transformer station and associated equipment are expected to eliminate the need for 15 generators currently installed each year during motorsport events, reducing the event’s carbon footprint.

The platform will be built using a concrete slab supported by piles. Construction will rely primarily on maritime operations, with land deliveries restricted to a limited logistics area along the quay. The approach is intended to minimise disruption to nearby residents and other events taking place in the area.

The works will also temporarily affect local recreational boating. Approximately 100 boat owners with annual berthing contracts will need to relocate their vessels while construction is under way. The Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco has begun contacting those affected, with around 30 boat owners expected to be offered alternative berths within Monaco’s port network once the project is completed.

The extension forms part of preparations to accommodate the logistical demands of the Grand Prix while improving the infrastructure available for other events hosted in the Principality.
