AS Monaco began their UEFA Conference League campaign with a 2-1 victory over CSKA Sofia on Thursday, October 15, taking all three points in Bulgaria after a strong first-half performance and a tense finish.

Paris Brunner gave Monaco an ideal start at the Vasil Levski Stadium, opening the scoring after just three minutes. The German forward capitalised on a loose clearance to put the visitors ahead, continuing his impressive start to the season.

Monaco doubled their advantage shortly before half-time when Brunner turned provider, setting up Ansu Fati to finish across goal in the 43rd minute. The visitors went into the break with a two-goal cushion after making the most of their attacking opportunities.

CSKA Sofia responded with greater urgency after the restart, putting Monaco under increasing pressure. The hosts eventually reduced the deficit in the 76th minute, when substitute Joël Zwarts headed home from a corner to set up a nervy final period.

Despite the late pressure, Monaco held on to secure their first victory in the competition. Goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký was called upon to make important saves as the Bulgarian side searched for an equaliser.

The result marks a positive start to Monaco’s first-ever UEFA Conference League campaign, following their qualification through the play-off round against Polish side Górnik Zabrze.

Monaco will now turn their attention back to Ligue 1, with an away match against Lorient scheduled for Sunday, October 18, before returning to European action.
