AS Monaco let a two-goal half-time lead slip against Toulouse on Saturday, October 10, drawing 2-2 at the Stade Louis-II but staying unbeaten and top of Ligue 1 after six games.
Toulouse hit back within three minutes of the restart. Casper Tengstedt scored from the penalty spot in the 48th minute, and Sion Oppong, who had come on at half-time, levelled just before the hour. Monaco had led through goals from Edan Diop and Matthis Abline, and had been the better side for most of the first half.
Monaco’s first chance came in the 15th minute, when Mathys Detourbet’s effort hit the crossbar. Two minutes later, a Flávio Nazinho header was cleared off the line.
Diop broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, rising to head in Aleksandr Golovin’s cross. It was the midfielder’s second goal for the club and Golovin’s third assist of the season. Toulouse had threatened only from distance, with Thomas Jörgensen and Tengstedt both failing to test Lukas Hradecký.
Abline then made it 2-0 in the 38th minute. He produced a piece of skill, turned and fired home from 20 metres, scoring his first goal since joining the club.
After the break, Monaco searched for a winner but were denied. Guillaume Restes saved a Golovin free-kick in the 66th minute. Coach Filipe Luís brought on Ansu Fati for his first competitive appearance in a long time, and he had a shot blocked and a header saved. In stoppage time, Folarin Balogun couldn’t find Fati with the last chance of the match.
Nazinho and Golovin were booked for Monaco, and Toulouse’s Casseres also saw yellow. President Dmitry Rybolovlev watched from the stands on a night dedicated to Pink October, the breast cancer awareness month.
Monaco’s schedule is busy. They start their Conference League campaign away in Sofia on Thursday, October 15, with kick-off at 6.45pm. They then travel to Lorient on Sunday, October 18, at 5.15pm in Ligue 1.
