Monaco has joined international tributes to Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali after he received a prestigious Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council in New York…
The awards, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, recognise figures whose leadership and influence extend across borders. Domenicali was honoured alongside Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and actress and singer Cynthia Erivo.
His Serene Highness Prince Albert II contributed a video message congratulating Domenicali, whilst Monaco’s Ambassador to the United States and Canada, Maguy Maccario Doyle, attended the ceremony. She highlighted the particular significance of the recognition for the Principality, where Formula 1 and the Monaco Grand Prix share a relationship stretching back generations.
That relationship has recently been reinforced by the agreement securing Formula 1’s presence in Monaco until 2035, ensuring one of the championship’s most famous races remains on the calendar.
Domenicali used his acceptance speech to emphasise sport’s ability to unite people across nationalities and cultures, arguing that intense competition need not come at the expense of mutual respect. He also thanked Prince Albert II personally for his message and friendship.
For Monaco, the award provided another international spotlight on a partnership that combines sporting heritage with Formula 1’s increasingly global reach.
