Alcohol sales will be temporarily prohibited across Monaco on Thursday, August 27, ahead of AS Monaco’s UEFA Conference League qualifier against Polish side Górnik Zabrze at the Stade Louis II…
The measure, detailed in a ministerial decision featured in the Journal de Monaco, has been introduced amid concerns over potential public-order disturbances involving travelling supporters. The government cited recent incidents involving Górnik fans and noted that several “ultra” groups are expected to be represented among those travelling to the Principality.
Authorities referred specifically to disorder surrounding two recent European fixtures. Around 700 Górnik supporters attended a match against Turkish opposition on July 21, with 300 considered potentially high-risk, while incidents were also reported during the club’s visit to Budapest on August 5. The decision states that significant alcohol consumption preceded the disturbances.
For Thursday’s 18:45 kick-off, alcohol sales will therefore be banned from 14:30 until 18:15 in Fontvieille, Jardin Exotique, Moneghetti, Sainte-Dévote, Condamine, Monaco-Ville and around Port Hercule.
Elsewhere in the Principality, the restriction will apply from 14:30 until 17:00.
The government said the temporary measure is intended to reduce the risk of disorder both inside and around the Stade Louis II.
