A programme helping people regain fitness and confidence through rowing has proved a growing success at the Monaco Nautical Society, with participants reporting significant improvements to their health and mobility…
Launched in 2023, Rowing for Health is designed for people who are sedentary, losing independence or living with long-term illnesses. Rather than following a fixed programme, sessions are adapted to each participant’s physical condition and capabilities, allowing everyone to exercise at their own pace.
Training combines rowing machines with warm-ups and muscle-strengthening exercises, helping participants rebuild strength and flexibility following extended periods of inactivity. More than 20 people now attend sessions on Wednesday and Friday mornings, with two 90-minute time slots available.
Participants have spoken enthusiastically about the results. One 80-year-old reported substantial weight loss since joining, whilst another said improved flexibility meant everyday tasks that had previously become difficult were once again manageable.
Beyond the physical benefits, members also say that the enjoyment and companionship provided by the sessions, have become an important part of their weekly routines.
With demand continuing to grow, additional time slots could soon be introduced.
