Donating blood may take only a matter of minutes, but it remains one of the simplest and most essential ways to help save lives, and Monaco’s Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (CHPG) is renewing its call for donors this summer.
While the number of donations in the Principality has been rising, reserves still fall short of covering the territory’s full transfusion needs. The shortfall becomes particularly acute during the summer months, when soaring temperatures and the school holiday period make it harder for people to book appointments, even as the CHPG continues to issue strong appeals for donors to come forward.
The process itself is straightforward and takes well under an hour. To donate, individuals must be between 18 and 70 years old, in good general health, and weigh at least 50 kilograms. For those with mobility concerns or scheduling difficulties, CHPG also offers a free chauffeur service that can collect donors from home or work, bring them to the centre, and return them afterward, part of a broader effort to remove barriers to giving blood.
Appointments can be booked online via the Monaco Santé platform or by phone at 97 98 98 20. Donations are typically collected at CHPG’s dedicated Maison du Don throughout the week, offering residents a simple, direct way to support the Principality’s blood supply during the very months it tends to run lowest.
