The Roca Team has confirmed it will file a petition with France’s National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) as part of a conciliation procedure, in a renewed bid to secure the club’s takeover, recapitalisation, and return to Betclic Élite, according to a club statement issued Monday, August 10.
The move follows the FFBB Appeals Chamber’s decision on August 1 to uphold the club’s exclusion from Betclic Élite for the 2026-2027 season, after the required documentation for the club’s takeover and recapitalisation failed to arrive within the set deadlines. In its statement, the club acknowledged the outcome had been expected given the timeline involved, and that under the circumstances, the Appeals Chamber could hardly have ruled differently.
Despite the setback, Monaco insists talks with former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn and his team have never stopped, and have in fact intensified significantly since the Appeals Chamber’s ruling. The club described the intent behind the takeover as genuine and sincere, characterising the proposed sporting and economic project, spanning both national and European ambitions, as a serious one, with the financial backing presented so far viewed favourably by those involved in the process. According to the statement, no party has ever been closer to reaching a full agreement than they are now.
The CNOSF petition will proceed on a carefully controlled timeline, shaped by legal requirements and the need to give the process the best possible chance of success. Monaco has until 11:59pm on August 18 to formally submit its grounds for the petition, a legal deadline the club says exists specifically to allow ongoing negotiations to be finalised before the case is formally filed. All parties involved have set an informal target of August 14 to reach that point, with the club stating there will be no further public updates before then.
The statement also addressed growing frustration from other clubs awaiting clarity on next season’s divisional makeup, acknowledging that their impatience is entirely legitimate, while maintaining that Monaco, too, has the right to defend its position. The club pointed to its recent sporting record, describing itself as the most decorated club in French basketball in recent years, and argued that having earned its place in both Betclic Élite and the EuroCup through those results, it remains just as entitled to pursue reinstatement, provided there is a clear will to resolve the club’s difficulties, a credible plan, and the means to carry it out.
The statement closed by reiterating that the Roca Team has never been closer to securing its return to Betclic Élite, with the club pointing to August 14 as the next key date in the process.
