The collaboration is helping develop the next generation of lunar vehicles for NASA’s Artemis programme, with the first crewed rover expected to explore the Moon’s south pole later this decade.
Astrolab, founded in 2019, has rapidly grown into one of NASA’s selected commercial partners, winning a contract to develop the CLV-1, a one-tonne rover capable of carrying up to 500 kilograms of scientific equipment. The vehicle is designed to transport astronauts and research payloads across the lunar surface, supporting plans for a long-term human presence on the Moon.
Venturi contributes some of the rover’s most critical technologies, drawing on years of experience developing electric vehicles for extreme environments. Its engineers have created batteries capable of surviving the Moon’s freezing two-week nights, along with advanced suspension systems and flexible, airless wheels designed to cope with the harsh lunar terrain.
Before the larger rover begins operations, Astrolab plans to launch its smaller FLEX vehicle from Cape Canaveral later this year to validate key technologies on the lunar surface. Together, the partnership demonstrates how innovation from Monaco is helping shape the next chapter of space exploration.
