The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra launched its 2026 Summer Concerts at the Prince’s Palace on Thursday evening, continuing one of Monaco’s most cherished cultural traditions…
Established in 1959 at the initiative of Prince Rainier III, the open-air performances in the Cour d’Honneur once again attracted a large and attentive audience for an evening of exceptional music.
Under the baton of renowned Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan, the Orchestra performed Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor, delivering a powerful and deeply moving interpretation in the majestic setting of the Palace. The Summer Concerts remain one of the highlights of Monaco’s cultural calendar, regularly welcoming world-class conductors and soloists to the Principality.
This year’s series also marks the final Palace performances for two long-serving musicians. Bassoonist Michel Mugo and horn player Didier Favre-Corp are taking part in their last Summer Concerts before retiring after distinguished careers of 44 and 35 years respectively with the Orchestra. Both reflected on the friendships, tours and unforgettable musical experiences that have defined their time with the OPMC.
The Summer Concerts continue on July 12, 26 and 30, followed by performances on August 2 and 6, reaffirming the Principality’s enduring commitment to musical excellence and artistic heritage.
