As part of celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Principality’s diplomatic mission in Spain, the Embassy of Monaco is continuing its programme highlighting the historic ties and excellent relationship between Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain.

Among the year’s key events is the touring exhibition “Monaco and Spain, Five Centuries of Shared History.” Drawing on a selection of archival documents, artworks and heritage pieces, the exhibition traces five centuries of political, diplomatic, cultural and scientific relations that have shaped the bond between the two countries.

The exhibition was inaugurated in Madrid on June 1 at the Villanueva Pavilion of the Real Jardín Botánico, in the presence of Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, and Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco.

During the visit, Prince Albert II, accompanied by his delegation, held a working meeting with King Felipe VI, during which the strong relationship between the two countries was widely emphasised. The Sovereign and his delegation were also received by Pedro Sánchez, President of the Spanish Government. These exchanges reflect the quality of political dialogue and cooperation between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain.

Following Madrid, the exhibition has continued its journey across Spain. It is currently showing in Seville, where it was inaugurated on June 22 at the headquarters of the Fundación Cajasol, in the presence of its President, Antonio Pulido Gutiérrez, and institutional representatives from Andalusia.

The exhibition will next travel to Palma de Mallorca, hosted at the Club de Mar, before moving on to the Central Library of Santander. Its Spanish tour will conclude in Barcelona this autumn.
