Monaco stepped back through centuries of shared history this weekend as the Principality hosted the 7th edition of the Grimaldi Historical Sites Encounters in Palace Square…

The event, officially opened by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, brought together representatives from French and Italian communities linked to the Grimaldi dynasty, celebrating a heritage that continues to unite territories across Europe.

Joined by HSH Princess Charlène, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, Prince Albert welcomed delegations from the Department and City of Mayenne, Fontaine-Française, Roumoules, Ascros, Marie, Pianezza and Livorno Ferraris. In his opening address, the Sovereign highlighted the importance of these encounters as a testament to a shared history and expressed his desire to further strengthen bonds of friendship, cooperation and cultural exchange between Monaco and its historic partners.

Throughout the weekend, Palace Square was transformed into a vibrant village showcasing local traditions, craftsmanship and regional products. Members of the Princely Family toured the stands, meeting elected officials, artisans, producers and visitors who had travelled to Monaco to participate in the celebration.

Among the attractions were displays of traditional skills, regional specialities and heritage projects reflecting the identity of each participating community. Producers from Roumoules presented lavender and local products, while artisans demonstrated creative techniques that preserve and reinterpret traditional craftsmanship.

More than a celebration of history, the Grimaldi Historical Sites Encounters have become a symbol of the enduring links between Monaco and the territories shaped by the dynasty’s remarkable legacy, ensuring that centuries-old connections remain alive for future generations.
