The Prince’s Palace’s commitment to sport in Monaco gained further momentum this week as Her Serene Highness Princess Charlène was appointed Vice-President of the Monaco Olympic Committee (COM)…
The appointment was confirmed during the organisation’s recent General Assembly, with Princess Charlène taking on the role alongside her ongoing responsibilities as President of the Monegasque Rugby Federation. A former Olympic swimmer who represented South Africa at the highest level of international competition, the Princess has long been involved in promoting sport, youth engagement and the core values of the Olympic movement.
In a statement following her appointment, Princess Charlène said sport had taught her “discipline, respect and surpassing oneself,” adding that she wished to place that experience “at the service of athletes.”
The Monaco Olympic Committee supports Monegasque athletes throughout their sporting careers, helping optimise preparation and performance at elite level while promoting Monaco within the international Olympic movement.
In her new role, Princess Charlène is expected to play an active part in strengthening support systems for high-level athletes while encouraging a sporting culture based on inclusion, solidarity and ethics.
The appointment further reinforces Monaco’s commitment to sport as a tool for education, inspiration and international influence.
