His Serene Highness Prince Albert II was named an honorary member of the Turin Academy of Agriculture during a ceremony marking the institution’s 241st anniversary, held at the Venaria Reale near Turin, often referred to as the “Versailles of Piedmont” …
The distinction recognises the Sovereign’s longstanding commitment to environmental protection, sustainability and scientific initiatives linked to the future of agriculture and food security.
Founded more than two centuries ago, the Turin Academy of Agriculture promotes research and innovation across a broad range of agricultural and environmental issues. This year’s discussions focused particularly on sustainable farming techniques, genetic improvement technologies and reducing the environmental impact of crop protection methods.
Addressing the audience, Prince Albert II highlighted the global challenge of feeding a growing world population while preserving natural ecosystems. He stressed that the issue directly aligns with the environmental priorities supported by both his foundation and the Principality of Monaco. “How are we going to feed eight to ten billion people while protecting the planet?” the Sovereign asked during his remarks.
More than 200 guests attended the ceremony, including leading academics, researchers and institutional representatives. Academy officials praised Prince Albert II for his dedication to environmental causes and his efforts to promote coexistence between technological progress and nature conservation.
The honour places Prince Albert II among a distinguished list of former academy members, including Charles Darwin and renowned Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro.
