The Monte-Carlo Opera has officially revealed its 2026–2027 season, with director Cecilia Bartoli presenting a rich and varied programme just one day after the close of the current season…

The announcement, made at the Salle Garnier, drew strong interest, reflecting growing anticipation around the institution’s artistic direction. The new season will open in November with a recital by rising tenor Jonathan Tetelman, marking his debut in Monaco. This will be followed by a diverse line-up spanning opera, operetta and concert performances, showcasing composers from Rossini and Verdi to Gershwin.

Among the highlights is Carmen, scheduled at the Grimaldi Forum around National Day, alongside appearances from leading international voices and ensembles, including the Cape Town Opera Chorus.

Bartoli has placed particular emphasis on vocal excellence and stylistic diversity, blending traditional repertoire with more unexpected formats. Offenbach’s La Vie parisienne will bring a festive close to the year, while Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri, featuring Bartoli herself, will headline the January programme. The season will also include recital evenings, Wagner repertoire, Verdi’s Rigoletto, and even a return of Italian puppet theatre.

Designed to appeal to both seasoned opera lovers and new audiences, the programme reflects a balance of heritage and innovation. With limited seating at the historic venue, demand is expected to be high for what promises to be another standout season in Monaco’s cultural calendar.
