Monaco has taken a significant step in expanding its diplomatic footprint, as Stéphanie Vikström formally presented her credentials to Alexander Stubb during an official ceremony in Helsinki on Friday, March 20.
The moment marks a first for the Principality, with Vikström becoming the inaugural ambassador accredited by Monaco to a Nordic country, a move that signals a broader effort to strengthen ties beyond its traditional European partners.
Her appointment reflects Monaco’s intention to deepen its international engagement and diversify its diplomatic network, particularly with countries that share similar priorities. Finland, widely recognised for its leadership in education, innovation and environmental policy, aligns closely with Monaco’s own focus on sustainability, research and international cooperation.
During discussions following the ceremony, Vikström and President Stubb explored opportunities for closer collaboration in areas of shared interest, while also underlining the continued importance of multilateral dialogue in addressing global challenges.
The new accreditation is part of a wider strategy by Monaco to reinforce its presence on the global stage, building partnerships that extend beyond geography and into shared values.
