An incident close to Monaco ended in tragedy on Wednesday evening after a man died following a police intervention in neighbouring Beausoleil…

The events unfolded on Avenue Prince Rainier III, just a short distance from the Principality, drawing the attention of local emergency services and authorities on both sides of the border.

Police had initially been alerted to a situation involving an individual reportedly in distress and in possession of a firearm. After leaving the scene in a vehicle, he was located and intercepted by officers following a refusal to comply with orders to stop. The situation escalated rapidly as police approached the vehicle, with emergency responders quickly mobilised in response.

As reported by Monaco Matin, the individual turned the weapon on himself during the intervention, despite the presence of police and the swift arrival of emergency services. First aid was immediately administered at the scene, but the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The incident has prompted an investigation led by judicial police in Nice to establish the precise sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Authorities have confirmed that standard procedures will be followed, including forensic examinations.

While the events took place outside Monaco, the proximity to the Principality and the involvement of regional emergency services have underlined the close coordination between French and Monegasque authorities in handling incidents in the area.
