AS Monaco produced one of their most impressive performances of the season on the evening of Friday, March 6, defeating league leaders Paris Saint-Germain 3–1 at the Parc des Princes and claiming a vital three points in the race for the European places.
Just days after facing PSG in the Champions League playoffs, Monaco returned to the capital determined to make a statement. Backed by around 700 travelling supporters, the visitors started confidently and showed early signs they were ready to challenge the Ligue 1 leaders.
The breakthrough came midway through the first half through academy product Maghnes Akliouche. After Mamadou Coulibaly won possession high up the pitch, Folarin Balogun laid the ball off to Akliouche, who struck decisively to give Monaco the lead on his 100th Ligue 1 appearance.
PSG attempted to respond but Monaco remained organised and disciplined. Goalkeeper Philipp Köhn was alert when called upon, while the visitors continued to press aggressively and disrupt the hosts’ rhythm.
Shortly after the restart, Monaco doubled their advantage. Substitute Aleksandr Golovin made an immediate impact, scoring with his first touch just moments after coming onto the pitch to make it 2–0 and silence the home crowd.
PSG briefly reignited the contest when Bradley Barcola pulled a goal back in the second half, but Monaco responded almost instantly. Balogun restored the two-goal cushion with a powerful long-range effort, continuing his strong run of form and effectively sealing the result.
The closing stages saw PSG push forward in search of another goal, but Monaco’s defence held firm. Köhn produced several key saves, while the visitors remained dangerous on the counterattack until the final whistle.
The 3–1 victory marks Monaco’s fourth consecutive Ligue 1 win and extends their unbeaten run in the league. It also represents a notable achievement against the reigning champions, with Monaco now having taken six points from PSG this season.
The result lifts the Principality side up to fifth place in the standings and provides renewed momentum as the Ligue 1 campaign enters its decisive stretch.
