A 54-year-old Monaco resident has been sentenced to 12 months in prison, nine of them suspended, after the criminal court found him guilty of repeated violence and death threats against his wife and teenage daughter…
The Italian national appeared before the court only days after his wife lodged a complaint with Public Security, bringing an end to years of what prosecutors described as a climate of fear within the family home.
According to evidence presented at the hearing, the victim detailed a pattern of abuse dating back more than a decade, including insults, intimidation, physical assaults and threats. The most recent incident involved blows to the face, hair pulling and a foot being deliberately crushed, injuries later confirmed by a medical examination that resulted in a five-day incapacity. Testimony from the couple’s three children, including their 15-year-old daughter, corroborated the allegations and painted a picture of sustained psychological and physical violence.
As reported by Monaco Matin, the presiding judge read aloud a series of text messages sent by the defendant, containing explicit threats and degrading language, which were described in court as particularly disturbing. Investigators also relied on audio recordings, witness statements and electronic evidence, leading the accused to partially admit the facts, though he continued to minimise his behaviour during the hearing.
In court, the defendant described himself as a “demanding” husband and father, acknowledging anger issues while denying some of the most serious accusations. The prosecution, however, stressed that verbal violence, financial control and intimidation had been used to dominate the family over many years.
The court imposed a probationary period, mandatory psychological treatment, a restraining order and a ban on contacting the victims. Following the verdict, the man was taken back into custody to begin serving his sentence.
