The Embassy of Monaco in Rome hosted the General Assembly of Mayors from the Historic Grimaldi Sites in Italy on January 16, marking the third consecutive year the meeting has been held at the embassy…

The gathering brought together representatives of Italian municipalities linked by shared Grimaldi heritage, reflecting the growing scale and ambition of the network.

Now uniting 46 communes across the Italian peninsula, the association, chaired by the Mayor of Dolceacqua, Fulvio Gazzola, continues to expand its cultural, sporting and environmental initiatives aimed at promoting the common legacy of these former Grimaldi territories. Projects are designed to boost visibility, encourage cooperation between towns, and highlight historical and cultural assets, in line with the values championed by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and the Principality.

Addressing the assembled mayors, including representatives from nearby cities such as Genoa and Ventimiglia as well as from southern regions of Italy, H.E. Anne Eastwood reaffirmed the close bonds between the Principality and what she described as a “great Monegasque family” across Italy. She underlined Monaco’s commitment to supporting the development and international profile of these communities.

Looking ahead to 2026, this partnership will be further strengthened through new visits by the Sovereign Prince to recently joined municipalities, along with a major event planned in Rome to showcase the network’s historic sites and rich culinary traditions, reinforcing cultural links and people-to-people exchanges between Italy and Monaco.
