The Condamine Market will close its doors this weekend for the start of a major renovation project, marking the end of an era for one of Monaco’s most cherished meeting places…

Before the shutters came down, the Town Hall organised a final evening celebration, “A se Revëde”, Monegasque for “see you soon”, bringing together traders, residents and long-time regulars in a warm, nostalgic farewell.

For generations, the market hall has been a daily anchor of neighbourhood life, where friendships were formed over morning coffee, lunchtime plates and impromptu conversations across the counters. Many visitors used the evening to share memories of schooldays lunches, family routines and favourite stallholders who helped define the spirit of the Condamine. Several traders are also closing personal chapters, including long-serving butchers and vendors who have spent decades serving the local community.

While emotions ran high, the mood was resolutely forward-looking. The renovation aims to modernise the site while preserving the convivial character that has made the market such a social landmark. During the works, traders will relocate to temporary premises on the Place d’Armes, with stalls reopening from January 15, ensuring continuity for customers and businesses alike. A discovery day is planned shortly afterwards to help residents settle into the temporary layout.

The redevelopment represents a significant investment in the everyday fabric of Monaco, not simply upgrading infrastructure, but safeguarding a living space where community life continues to thrive. For now, the message is clear: the market is not disappearing, only evolving, with its soul very much intact.
