The Principality of Monaco has reacted with deep emotion following the deadly fire that struck the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana in the early hours of New Year’s Day…

Several dozen people are feared dead and more than 100 injured after a blaze tore through a popular bar during peak holiday celebrations, according to Swiss authorities.

In an official message released by the Prince’s Palace, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and the Princely Government expressed their solidarity with Switzerland and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected. The communiqué, addressed to Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, underlined Monaco’s compassion for those enduring loss and suffering in the wake of the tragedy.

Swiss officials have confirmed that the incident is being treated as a fire, with no indication of an attack. The blaze broke out shortly after 01:30 at Le Constellation bar, a busy venue in Crans-Montana, where people of multiple nationalities were reportedly gathered to mark the New Year. Emergency services were rapidly mobilised, and injured victims were transferred to hospitals across Switzerland, with support also offered by neighbouring countries.
