Renovation work on Monaco’s Condamine covered market is due to start in mid-January 2026, marking the beginning of a major 13-month project aimed at upgrading the much-loved venue while keeping it fully operational.

Ahead of the launch, Monaco Town Hall held an information meeting for residents, traders and local businesses to outline the scope of the works, the timeline and the measures being put in place to limit disruption. The meeting was chaired by Mayor Georges Marsan, alongside Deputy Mayors Marjorie Crovetto and François Lallemand.

The refurbishment is intended to bring the market up to modern technical, regulatory and safety standards, with a particular focus on fire safety. During construction, trading will continue from a temporary setup installed directly on Place d’Armes. Stallholders will operate from fitted kiosks and marquees, with seating provided for around 60 customers wishing to eat on site.

Local producers who usually trade outdoors will keep their morning slots from 7:00 to midday, after which the space will be reconfigured with tables and chairs to boost capacity. The temporary market will, however, be dismantled during the Monaco Grand Prix period, from May 24 to June 14, 2026, to allow for the traditional Fan Zone.

To reduce the impact on life in the neighbourhood, the municipality has committed to strict site management, including full insulation of the work area, noise and sound-level monitoring, controlled working hours, and dust and vibration reduction systems. A digital platform will provide regular updates on progress, while access to the Rue Terrazzani lifts and the public car park beneath the market will remain open throughout the works.

Once completed, the renovated hall will retain its architectural character and convivial atmosphere, while offering improved thermal, acoustic and air-quality comfort, increased capacity and modern facilities. The project will also meet the standards of Monaco’s BD2M sustainable building certification.
