His Serene Highness Prince Albert II lent his support to African youth sport and education on Friday as he attended the launch of the Carlos Takam Academy in Kigali…
The Sovereign Prince, who has long championed sport as a vehicle for social progress, joined boxing personalities and dignitaries at the ceremony alongside French-Cameroonian champion Carlos Takam.
Scheduled to open its doors in March 2026, the academy will offer young Africans a unique combination of high-level boxing training and academic support. Created by the Carlos Takam Foundation, established in Rwanda in 2023, the project is built on three pillars — education, sport and peace — and aims to give promising athletes the tools to succeed both inside and outside the ring.

For Takam, who trained for years in Monaco, the inauguration fulfilled a decade-long ambition to “bring a sports-study academy to Africa”. The event also featured the unveiling of the Louja Africa World Championship belt, developed with the World Boxing Council to encourage world-class bouts to be staged on the continent.
By attending the launch, Prince Albert II underlined Monaco’s ongoing ties with African initiatives and its belief in sport as a driver of opportunity, development and international cooperation.
