At the Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG) this week, Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene combined a warm visit to young mothers and newborns with the official launch of a new public-health initiative she personally championed: first-aid training workshops dedicated to infants and young children…

Vice-President of the Monaco Red Cross, Princess Charlene has been advocating for years to improve awareness of accident prevention and emergency response for the youngest members of society. Domestic accidents remain the leading cause of infant mortality, and the new workshops aim to equip parents and anyone involved in childcare with the skills to react quickly and effectively in critical moments.

Developed in partnership with the Monaco Red Cross, the sessions will run from October and last around two hours. They are open not only to young mothers, but also to grandparents, extended family and babysitters — anyone likely to care for a child. Under the supervision of medical and emergency professionals, participants will learn how to respond to choking, falls, burns, convulsions, bleeding and other common emergencies. The goal is to build confidence among adults and dramatically reduce avoidable accidents.

During her visit, Princess Charlene took time to speak with the families present, underscoring the importance she attaches to preventive action and practical education. Expectant mothers attending the pilot session described the training as reassuring and essential, noting that while many know adult first-aid, few feel confident applying it to infants.

By bringing these workshops into the heart of Monaco’s main hospital, Princess Charlene strengthens a culture of everyday vigilance and community support. This initiative adds a new dimension to the Principality’s health-care system — one where parents and carers become first responders, ready to protect the youngest lives.
