In a continued effort to safeguard Monaco’s legislative and cultural memory, Thomas Brezzo, President of the National Council, paid a visit to the National Archives in Fontvieille on Wednesday, July 16. He was joined by a delegation that included Marie-Noëlle Gibelli, Vice-President of the Culture and Heritage Commission, Rémy Rolland, Chief of Staff, and Grégoire Commeau, Head of the Documentation Management Division.

The visit marked the signing of three new agreements, notably a fresh archival deposit convention between the National Council and the National Archives, expanding on a previous arrangement made in autumn 2024. This latest deposit enriches the archives with valuable heritage material, including legislative registers of laws adopted between 1918 and 1973, budget documents spanning from the 1920s to the early 2000s, and a chronological press collection from Journal de Monaco covering elected officials’ interventions from 1911 to 1930.

National Archives Director Michaël Bloche joined Brezzo in formalising the partnership, which underscores the ongoing commitment between the two institutions. A third archival transfer is already in the works for autumn 2025, continuing a collaboration that began in 2021 with the creation of the National Archives’ prefiguration mission. The National Council has since taken a proactive stance in modernising and standardising its archiving strategy, ensuring long-term accessibility to institutional memory.

To round off the visit, the delegation was offered an inside look at the archive facilities and presented with a selection of original, historically significant documents.
