As part of the centenary celebrations of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris (CIUP), the Fondation de Monaco took part in the opening roundtable of the new “Cité of the Future” series on World Environment Day…
The session focused on ecological responsibility and sustainable living, with the theme “For a model of living together that contributes to planetary balance.”
Martine Garcia Mascarenhas, Director of the Fondation de Monaco, reaffirmed Monaco’s strong commitment to climate action and its target of carbon neutrality by 2050. She highlighted the key role of the building sector in this transition and the creation of Monaco’s Mission for Energy Transition in 2016.
Representatives of the Princely Government, Pauline Caillouet and Raphaël Carossi, presented Monaco’s pioneering initiatives, such as the “Bâtiments Durables Méditerranéens de Monaco” (BD2M) strategy, solar panel installations that respect architectural heritage, centralised technical management systems in public buildings, and the MonaCUBE educational programme for reducing energy use.
The discussion centred on three pressing themes: renovating historic buildings without compromising heritage, promoting biodiversity across CIUP’s 34-hectare eco-park, and engaging the 12,000 international students and researchers who live on campus. The roundtable’s findings will feed into CIUP’s official “Centenary Declaration” later this year.
