Opening 4 July 2025, The Monaco Masters Show: Chagall & Léger, la couleur et la forme will bring two of the 20th century’s most celebrated artists into the spotlight at Opera Gallery Monaco, under the High Patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II…
Timed to mark the 40th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s passing and the 70th of Fernand Léger’s, the exhibition explores the parallels and contrasts between the two visionaries, tracing their journeys from early avant-garde Paris to their later lives in the South of France.
Chagall’s fantastical, dreamlike works—such as Le Peintre (1976)—embrace memory, folklore and emotion, blending lyrical colour with symbolism. Léger, by contrast, expressed a modernist fascination with machinery and progress, seen clearly in works like Nature morte aux trois papillons (1952), where mechanical forms and bold hues reflect his “Tubism” style. Together, the artists’ use of colour becomes both expressive and structural—a lens into different facets of the human condition.
In addition to the focused spotlight on Chagall and Léger, nearly 30 major works by modern and contemporary masters will be on display, including Monet, Picasso, Warhol, Kusama, Haring, and Calder. This ambitious summer exhibition is also a philanthropic initiative: a portion of sales will support Mission Enfance, helping children in need worldwide.
Opera Gallery Monaco, directed by Damien Simonelli, continues its legacy of showcasing seminal art while supporting meaningful causes. The show runs through 31 August 2025 and affirms Monaco’s ongoing cultural dialogue with the world of fine art.
