On Tuesday, April 8 at 20:00, the Théâtre Princesse Grace will present Passeport, a moving play written and directed by acclaimed French playwright Alexis Michalik…
Set in the now-dismantled Calais refugee camp, the production tells the story of Issa, Arun, and Ali—three refugees from Eritrea, Tamil India, and Syria—who, despite their different backgrounds, share a common goal: crossing the Channel to start a new life in England.
Blocked from continuing their journey, the men are forced to consider life in France and navigate the challenges of integration, language, and identity. Without overt moralising, Passeport offers a deeply empathetic and human look at the difficult paths travelled by refugees, evoking questions that resonate far beyond the borders of any one country. “At its core,” Michalik writes, “it’s our story—or maybe our parents’, or our ancestors’. We’ve all had to learn a foreign language, and find our place somewhere new.”
The performance features a talented cast including Christopher Bayemi, Patrick Blandin, Jean-Louis Garçon, Kevin Razy, Fayçal Safi, Manda Touré, and Ysmahane Yaqini. With an approximate running time of 1 hour and 40 minutes and no intermission, the show will be followed by a bord de scène—a post-show discussion with the team.
Passeport is one of several highlights on the Théâtre Princesse Grace’s April programme, which also includes L’Effet Miroir on April 1, the Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco on April 3, and Le Cercle des Poètes Disparus on April 23 and 24.
