Monaco is set to have a fresh voice in European political discussions as Julien Beltrandi, a political science student at the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas, prepares to represent the Principality at the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. Chosen through the “Rejuvenating Politics” initiative, Beltrandi will join the 48th and 49th sessions of the Congress, the first of which takes place from Tuesday, March 25 to Thursday, March 27 in Strasbourg.
Ahead of his participation, Beltrandi was welcomed at the Town Hall by Mayor Georges Marsan, Deputy Mayor Marjorie Crovetto, and other municipal officials. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss his upcoming role and the contributions he hopes to make. His selection follows a competitive process where he proposed initiatives to help students in Monaco better understand the workings of the Principality’s institutions and make informed career choices within its unique governance framework.
During the Congress, Beltrandi will accompany municipal representatives Marjorie Crovetto and Nada Lorenzi in key discussions, including the monitoring of democracy and human rights at local and regional levels. He will also have the opportunity to attend Crovetto’s address on the European Charter of Local Self-Government’s application in Liechtenstein.
Additionally, the Monegasque delegation will meet with Monaco’s Permanent Ambassador to the Council of Europe, Gabriel Revel, who recently assumed a prominent legal oversight role within the Council.
