French language learning in Monaco has received a further boost following the renewal of an agreement between the French Embassy and the International School of Monaco (ISM), allowing students and other learners to gain an internationally recognised qualification…
French Ambassador Christophe Lemoine and ISM director Stuart Bryan signed the agreement on Tuesday, October 20, continuing a partnership established in 2024. The school remains the only accredited examination centre in the Principality offering the DELF, the Diplôme d’études en langue française, which certifies French language proficiency for non-native speakers.
The qualification is particularly valuable for students wishing to pursue higher education in France, while also supporting Monaco’s wider commitment to the French-speaking world.

French already plays an important role at ISM, with bilingual teaching beginning in primary school and further opportunities to explore Francophone culture throughout secondary education.
The programme has grown considerably since its introduction, when 69 ISM students registered for examinations in 2024. This year, 166 candidates participated, including pupils from three other Monaco schools.
The centre also welcomes adult learners, with public examination sessions offered in March and June. Twenty-five teachers are accredited to support the programme, which has attracted more than 350 applications since its launch.
