The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation celebrated two decades of environmental commitment with the 19th edition of its Planetary Health Awards, held at the Salle des Étoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo…
Bringing together 400 guests, the ceremony recognised three individuals whose work is helping protect the planet and address the challenges of climate change. The first award honoured marine ecologist Dr David Obura, who has spent more than 30 years studying coral reefs, their extraordinary biodiversity and the growing threats they face from rising ocean temperatures. His research highlights the urgent need to safeguard these fragile marine ecosystems.
Innovation in renewable energy was also celebrated, with Swedish entrepreneur Patrik Möller recognised for founding CorPower Ocean, a company developing technology that harnesses the movement of ocean waves to generate electricity.

The third award went to Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, an environmental activist from Chad’s Indigenous Mbororo pastoralist community. For more than two decades, she has championed Indigenous peoples’ rights and the importance of traditional knowledge in responding to climate change.
Marking the Foundation’s 20th anniversary, the evening reinforced a message shared by all three recipients: protecting the environment requires scientific understanding, technological innovation and respect for communities whose knowledge spans generations.
