Monaco’s National Council has approved the Principality’s revised budget for 2026, following a parliamentary debate marked by difficult exchanges between elected representatives and members of the Prince’s Government…

The legislation was adopted on Thursday evening, October 15, despite divisions amongst councillors over the financial proposals. The vote saw 13 members support the amending budget, whilst two voted against and five abstained. The result secured approval for the Government’s revised financial plans, although the number of abstentions highlighted the reservations expressed during the discussions.

The amended budget projects a modest surplus of €5.9 million, maintaining a positive balance between the Principality’s anticipated revenue and expenditure.

Amending budgets allow governments to adjust their financial forecasts and spending commitments as circumstances evolve throughout the year. In Monaco, the process also provides an important opportunity for elected representatives to scrutinise public finances and question government priorities.

Despite the challenging dialogue, the revised budget has now received parliamentary approval.
