The Roca Team has been dealt a further blow after already being excluded from France’s professional divisions, with the club learning on Tuesday, September 1, that it has been replaced by Bosna Sarajevo in this season’s BKT EuroCup.
In its own statement, EuroCup organisers cited Monaco’s ineligibility, explaining that the club could not meet the competition’s regulatory requirements, notably participation in a national domestic championship, a condition the club had reportedly hoped to sidestep by pursuing entry into the Adriatic League instead, a route sources close to the EuroLeague say had little realistic chance of succeeding once Monaco’s national exclusion became final.
The EuroCup decision follows months of setbacks for a club that reached the EuroLeague final as recently as 2025. After the LNB’s financial oversight body ruled in early July that Monaco would not be admitted to either Betclic Élite or Élite 2 for financial reasons, a decision later upheld by the Federation’s appeals chamber, the club took its case to the CNOSF in a bid to save its professional status, only to be turned down once again.
With its exclusion from the LNB now effectively final, Monaco confirmed it would submit an application this week to join Nationale Masculine 1 (NM1), the third tier of French basketball, sitting below Betclic Élite and Élite 2, with the new season set to begin September 18.
The club described the move as a decisive step in bringing months of uncertainty to a close, following a lengthy process in which it exhausted nearly every available legal avenue in its attempt to preserve its place in the professional game. Saint-Quentin has since been promoted into Betclic Élite in Monaco’s place, with Fos-sur-Mer also reinstated into Élite 2.
