The Prince’s Palace was illuminated in the colours of the American flag on the evening of Saturday, July 4, after His Serene Highness Prince Albert II granted special authorisation to mark the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States…

The tribute formed part of worldwide commemorations organised at the invitation of the Office of the Chief of Protocol of the United States, celebrating one of the defining moments in American history while recognising the strong friendships the nation has built with partners across the globe.

For Monaco, the gesture reflected the enduring relationship between the Principality and the United States, underlining decades of close diplomatic, cultural and personal ties.

The year 2026 holds particular significance in the shared history of the two countries. It marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of Monaco’s Embassy in Washington, as well as the 70th anniversary of the marriage of Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace. Their union not only captivated the world but also forged a lasting connection between Monaco and America that continues today.

By lighting the Palace in red, white and blue, the Principality paid tribute to America’s historic milestone while celebrating a friendship that has flourished for generations through diplomacy, shared values and enduring cultural links.
