Monaco officially marked the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine on Thursday, May 28, during a ceremony attended by senior Monegasque officials, members of the Ukrainian community and diplomatic representatives from both countries.
Located within the Galerie Charles III, the consulate had already begun operating earlier this year but was formally inaugurated in the presence of Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Monaco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, alongside several prominent figures from the Principality.
The opening represents an important step for Monaco’s Ukrainian community, estimated at around 400 residents, while also reinforcing diplomatic ties between the Principality and Ukraine at a time when the war triggered by Russia’s invasion continues into its fifth year.
Among those attending the inauguration was Vadym Omelchenko, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France and Monaco. During the event, he highlighted the significance of maintaining international diplomatic representation and thanked Monaco for its continued support towards Ukraine and its citizens.
The new honorary consulate is expected to provide administrative assistance and support services for Ukrainian nationals living in or visiting Monaco, while also helping to strengthen cultural, economic and institutional exchanges between the two countries.
Monaco has repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine since the outbreak of the conflict in 2022, notably through humanitarian assistance measures and diplomatic backing within international organisations.
